Major Success for Bocanda Hospital (Neonatal Care)
The government had built a neonatal unit in Bocanda, but it had remained completely nonoperational for several years due to a lack of staff training. The Foundation’s assistance helped fund and organize training for nurses, transforming the building into a fully functional unit.
A national rarity: This unit is now one of only three (3) operational units out of the 46 neonatal units built by the government throughout the country.
Drastic Drop in Mortality: Thanks to this training and the unit’s launch, the neonatal mortality rate has dropped from 27 per 1,000 (six months ago) to zero (0‰) over the past three months.
We are currently preparing a roadmap for 2027, which will decide on the actions to be taken for the hospital during the year 2027.
