Inaugurating Football Field.
At Ecole LACASA KKO, we inaugurated a brand new MARACANA football field.
What is MARACANA? This style of football was born here in Côte d'Ivoire and is named after the famous stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The game is played by teams of six players on a pitch the size of a handball court, with a tiny goal and no goalkeeper.
The small size of the pitch and goal means that players have to combine technique and precision, making it an ideal training ground for eleven-a-side football.
It is impossible to date the invention of this style of football with precision, but experts in this popular sport believe that the rules originated in the 1970s on campuses in Côte d'Ivoire. At the time, students were finding it di!cult to get enough friends together and to find suitable pitches to play football on.
